Days 1–3: Land Safe
- 1.Arrive at Heathrow, Gatwick, or Manchester Airport — UK Border Force processes returning British nationals
- 2.Get an EE, O2, Vodafone, or Three UK SIM at any supermarket or carrier store — prepaid SIMs require no ID
Days 4–7: Get Connected
- 3.Contact family networks and community connections — the UK has strong South Asian, Caribbean, and West African diaspora communities
- 4.If you were born in the UK, visit the General Register Office or nearest registry to obtain your birth certificate
Week 2: Documents & Stability
- 5.Apply for a UK passport at His Majesty's Passport Office (HMPO) online or at any Post Office Passport Check and Send service
- 6.Open a bank account at Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, or a challenger bank (Monzo, Starling) — Monzo and Starling require only a smartphone and proof of address
Week 3–4: Start Rebuilding
- 7.Register with the DWP (Department for Work and Pensions) and your local Jobcentre Plus for Universal Credit and employment support
- 8.Apply for a National Insurance (NI) number to enable legal employment and access to benefits
